Brunch Find: Cowgirl Seahorse

ImageCowgirl Seahorse–a hidden gem in the South Street Seaport, that’s packed to the brim with everything Western. The quaint, cozy space has unique and festive decorations covering their walls like old pictures and magazine covers to ropes and lassos (for Christmas, they had a ton of lights scattered throughout the place–it was incredible). And not to mention their food is absolutely delicious.

Their menu is comprised of foods that blend southern and southwestern with options such as ‘The Texas Two Step’ to huevos rancheros. I was feeling adventurous and in the mood to try something new, so I opted for their shrimp and grits–and let me just say as someone who has never had grits before I was definitely impressed. One thing I love is that they certainly don’t give you a shortage of grits. Around the heaping pile of grits were shrimp that were cooked in bacon, butter and hot sauce with a warm, flaky, buttermilk biscuit as a side. Heaven indeed. I was seriously in awe of every plate that came out of the kitchen. If the shrimp and grits hadn’t filled me up, I would have ordered something else (but now that I think about it, it’s probably a good thing I didn’t).

I learned something that day: grits may be my new favorite go-to brunch food. If you haven’t checked out Cowgirl Seahorse, you definitely should! It’s fun and affordable–and they serve lunch and dinner too. But until next time, keep eating!
